Embracing the Journey of Life is Key to Success

I know we’ve all felt overwhelmed by seeing someone on social media who has an incredible self-made career and thought to ourselves, “why didn’t I create my own job 5 or 10-years ago?”

I believe that we allow many amazing ideas to come and go and we never act upon them because of fear.

I fall into this category, myself. So, I decided: instead of focusing on missed opportunities, I will challenge myself to follow my dreams. I think of myself as an unlikely entrepreneur because originally, I sought a steady 9 to 5 job with benefits. Straight out of college, I began working for an organization which afforded me the opportunity for growth. I moved from an entry- level position to a supervisory position within 2 years. I had career stability, but this pesky feeling of unhappiness was looming over me. I wanted to carve my own path, starting with opening a private practice.

I call myself the unlikely entrepreneur because I never thought I would start my own business. I would see other people starting their own business and I would think they were smarter than me, more ambitious than me, or more business savvy than me.

When my parents came to this country, they wanted to provide me with the opportunity to get an education and obtain a good paying job. I like to think that it was to also give me the freedom to make my own path.

I call myself the unlikely entrepreneur because I don’t feel as though I’m like all these influencers that I see on social media - but I’m sure they were times where they felt just like me; like they were never going to hit their stride. Other people are very confident and know that they are going to make it no matter what!

Even if you don’t have that same confidence to start your own business, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t follow your dreams or that you shouldn’t try.

From this unlikely entrepreneur to anyone else out there who wants to carve their own path - go for it. Because that’s the only way you’ll know for sure if you will make it or not.

“Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.”

-William Shakespeare.
