I'm calling 2021 my year of purpose. I want to define my role as a holistic social worker.
This isn’t a profession that I do because I need to work – it’s my calling in life. I think it’s important for me to explore that this year and to figure out what type of impact I want to have on the world and in my community.
I was drawn to social work because of experiences that I had when I was a child, living at home. My mom was not a social worker by trade, but she was always available to help serve her family and community. She really inspired me to be the best person that I can be and put a focus on others.
Given everything that’s happened in the last year, and continues to happen, defining my role as a holistic social worker has become monumental. I don’t want to just be seen as a therapist or an administrator for a non-profit. I want to provide services to my community that align with my values by providing a comprehensive, holistic approach.
I've made the commitment to find my purpose and explore non-traditional ways to be of service and to help heal my community.
“My life is a miracle that cannot be recreated. I can never get these hours, weeks, years back. This means actually being in my life, and it means bringing my values into my daily decision making. Each day should be lived on purpose.”
